Texas Insurance Commissioner Jose Montemayor Wednesday approved an updated "bills of rights" for consumers. Automobile and residential property insurance companies must provide the information to their policy holders. The Office of Public Interest Counsel submitted the changes. The updated bills include: l.) the expansion of sections concerning the consumer's right to be told the reasons for denial, cancellation or nonrenewal of an auto or residential property policy, and 2.) the addition of an e-mail address to TDI consumer contact information. An industry spokesman says insurers have long supported providing the public with as much information as possible when choosing auto and homeowners insurance.
