My 12 year old daughter has been under a doctor's care for 9 months for a lump on her parotid gland. Two weeks ago, it was removed and found to be malignant. There is to be no treatment other than monthly physical exams. She has been covered by her father's insurance through the company he left two months ago (he was allowed to continue on the insurance for 3 months). He now has to join the medical insurance plan where he is currently employed. I read all of the HIPPA info. and need to know if I understand what it is telling me. If someone has a pre-existing condition for up to 6 months prior to the enrollment date, they will not be covered for a waiting period of 12 mos. But in one of the replies to a letter similar to mine, it seems to have said as long as the person was covered by another insurance company up until enrollment, the pre-existing condition is included in the new coverage. Is that true? If not, what are we to do for the one year period if her cancer would reoccur within that time? Thank you for any info. or help you can give our family.
