NATION'S SENIORS FACE HIGH OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES
(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999-- TOPIC: This year, the average elderly American will spend over
$2,400, or approximately 19 percent of annual income, on healthcare expenses not covered by
insurance, according to a report by AARP. Prescription drugs reportedly are seniors' greatest
out-of-pocket expense, totaling 17 percent of their annual healthcare expenses. Other out-of-pocket
costs include Medicare monthly premiums, deductibles, co-payments and expensive routine
treatments, according to the report.
